PANEL SESSION 2 – Bridging the commercialization gap of new environmental technologies

11:45 – 13:15 Panel session 2 – Bridging the commercialization gap of new environmental technologies
Session description:
One of the biggest challenges facing the shift from an environmental technology demonstration phase to its full scale application is proving its performance and benefits from application to the first commercial user.. To gain interest of industry and meet their risk tolerance, green innovations must demonstrate in a credible way not only technical viability in addressing an environmental problem but that the problem will be solved or an opportunity created delivering positive or less adverse environmental impacts compared to incumbents. ETV enables both. Therefore, this potential should be considered by the operators of innovation support programmes at EU and national level dedicated to development and market acceleration of new marketable environmental technologies. Integration of ETV into these programmes as a tool providing an independent performance assessment could help technology developers overcome the valley of death while maximising the impact of public subsidies spent on green innovations by increasing their commercialization potential thanks to proving their performance
Session objective:
The objective of the session is to promote ETV among operators of national and EU innovation support programmes as a tool for maximizing the commercialization potential of green innovations and encourage them to adopt the scheme into innovation ecosystems
Questions to be addressed:

  • What are the key risks facing developers of new environmental technologies at a demo stage on their way to market?
  • How these risks are addressed by innovation support programmes dedicated to new environmental technologies?
  • Is an independent performance assessment involved in the support programmes ?
  • What benefits could integration of ETV into the innovation support programmes bring to technology developers and programme operators?
